We are Filigran: A group of 10 craftspeople, men and women, working together in a two-room studio in the northwest part of Prizren, Kosovo. Many of us have been producing filigree for over 30 years. Making these adornments gives us pride that we are continuing an important Albanian tradition. Prizren was a handi-craft trading center back in the 15-17th centuries, famous for filigree, textiles, and gun production. This tradition continued into the 1940's when the Yugoslav state founded the Filigran company together with over 150 local craftsmen. After the war in 1999, numbers dwindled and the group of 10 continue to produce works of art in the orginal building. Filigran is one of the few companies that still makes adornments using the same processes and techniques that Albanians used so long ago. All of our items are handmade and with it, you take a slice of our rich history!
